How Puppy Age Conversion Works
For the first 12 months, this tool uses month-by-month reference points rather than treating the year as 12 equal steps. A one-month-old puppy is estimated near one human year, a six-month-old near ten, and a 12-month-old near 15. Decimal ages are estimated between the two nearest monthly reference points.
Weeks are converted to months using an average of 4.345 weeks per month before the same lookup is applied. Interpolation makes an in-between estimate possible; it does not mean the puppy’s entire first year follows a straight 15-year line.
For entries over 12 months, the tool continues with the adult size-based model. At that point, the main dog age calculator provides more relevant adult life-stage context.
